More Than 240 Rescue Groups and Shelters Win Grants and Prizes in The Animal Rescue Site’s Shelter+ Challenge
Seattle, WA, May 03, 2013 –(PR.com)– More than 240 rescue groups in United States, Canada, and elsewhere are receiving letters this week to let them know that they were winners in GreaterGood’s The Animal Rescue Site’s $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com.
The winning shelters and rescue groups will receive grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 as well as such prizes as vaccinations and fleece beds for pets in the care of these groups. The Grand Prize winner for this round was Friends of Felines Rescue Center, located in Defiance, OH, which received $10,000.
This round saw dozens of first time winners including Golden Paw Society of Huntingdon, NY, which took home a $2,000 “Dark Horse” grant. Dark Horse grants were restricted to groups who had never won any grants through the Shelter Challenge since it began in 2008. A total of $100,000 in cash grants was awarded this round as well as vaccinations and pet beds. (A full list of all 247 grants and prizes can be found at www.TheAnimalRescueSite.com).
More than $1.3 million in Challenge grants has been funded by GreaterGood’s The Animal Rescue Site for shelters and rescue groups in the last five years. Grants are determined by animal lovers casting votes at The Animal Rescue Site. Participation in the Challenges is free for the groups, their supporters, and any “clicker” at the website. This Challenge lasted from January to April and awarded the most grants and prizes ever.
Later in 2013, a new Shelter Challenge will begin with even more opportunities for visitors to The Animal Rescue Site to help their hometown rescue. Information on registering groups for the next Challenge will be made available at the Animal Care Expo in Nashville on May 8 and later online at The Animal Rescue Site.
A complete list of all winners in the current and past Challenges can be found at www.TheAnimalRescueSite.com (click on the link that says Shelter Challenge) as well as details about the winners in the first round of the 2013 Shelter+ Challenge. The Challenge just completed was open to all active members of the Petfinder.com Network, approximately 13,000 shelters and rescue groups located primarily in United States and Canada.
