Info: Best Friends is co-sponsoring a Community Cat TNR Boot Camp in Brevard County, Florida, on Friday September 24th, for anyone interested in helping free-roaming cats. This free, one-evening camp will show people how to help cats by offering individuals and groups the tools and assistance they need to succeed. Attendees will learn about trap/neuter/return (TNR) techniques, nuisance control, working with neighbors, animal control, feral cat care and management. The program also provides referrals to low-cost clinics and veterinarians in the area willing to give discounts for spays and neuters. “People are utilizing this program and saving lives as we speak." Please attend the training camp to learn how to effectively manage community cats!

What: 14th Annual "Tales & Tails Gala"

Info: The Southeast Region of Canine Companions for Independence will host the 14th Annual Tales & Tails Gala. Last year’s event raised more than $325,000 to help Canine Companions place assistance dogs, free of charge, for people with disabilities. The event includes a silent and live auction and a reception and program featuring animals from local professional animal trainer Joel Slaven. The dinner program will honor three Canine Companions’ graduates who will tell their courageous stories and will describe how their assistance dog has provided them with joy, friendship and independence. Ticket, sponsorship and volunteer information is available on-line. Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. It is the largest non-profit organization in the world that provides assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities. The Southeast Region of Canine Companions for Independence serves Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Louisiana and Mississippi.
